April Ross

April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players to have won medals at least twice in an Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll try to win her third gold medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross is also hoping to win her very first Olympic medal. The next chance she'll ever have to do so at the age of 39. Nevertheless she is confident that top honors are firmly at hand. Ross was mentioned by NBC Boston as saying that when you perform at your very best, even if you perform well, you will win the gold. Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross was born August 22nd, 1982 at Costa Mesa California. She lived there with her family. Ross competed in many activities while at Newport Harbor High School. When she was a student in the prep school she played indoor volleyball along with basketball and track. However, she was a standout during this game. Based on her biography, she was a middle blocker and an outside hitter on the volleyball court throughout her time in high school. She was awarded by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman was already a big-time player on the beach scene long before their pairing. She has been able to win multiple events, one of which was with a legendary volleyball player. In the period 2007-2013 she played together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Kessy and Ross were an impressive force on the world circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 with each other. They eventually won an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold beating them to it. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor when she retired. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross was a student athlete for USC Trojans before starting her professional career. She played in high school and in years prior to hitting the beach professionally. Ross's time in the Trojans was impressive. She was an All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year when she was a teen freshman. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans get to the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she suffered a tremendous personal setback, but she was able to repeat as an All-American. Through her two final years in the Trojans program, she guided them to a national title every time. Her individual achievements have cemented her status as a legend in volleyball. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross studied the field of international relations in USC. Sadly, Ross mother Margie never got to see Ross's daughter reach the top levels of beach volleyball superstardom. In 2001 when Ross was in her sophomore year studying at USC her mother died of breast cancer. She still holds her mother dear. Margie is a source of inspiration in her life and on the beaches.
